art and architecture

This article aims to discuss art and architecture related to brutalism, minimalism, and eco-centricism, including:

  • interior design of bars, restaurants, homes, etc
  • designing a eco-centric community
  • low carbon transportation
  • tree houses and other nature-inspired architecture

preferred materials include:

  • wood, bamboo, and other natural materials
  • concrete and steel, showing the rawness and simplicity of industrial materials, also the coldness and alienation of modern life.
  • glass, ceramics, which are eco-friendly

Here we discuss arts in the era of neoliberalism, like architecture, etc

A typical architecture in the era of neoliberalism consists of elements like:

  • metal and glass, showing the coldness, tidiness, and highly organized structure.
  • fine angles and straight lines in the design, implying the precision, coldness, alienation, and individualism.
  • minimalism with brute-force simplicity, based on the raw concrete and steel, giving a sense of lacking of warmth, comfort, and humanity, and emphasizing the efficiency and functionality.
  • decorations to mimic the nature, like apples made of metal with smooth surface, ironic and artificial, showing the alienation and the loss of connection with nature, but still trying to evoke it.

I hereby design an example of a neoliberal bar, consisting of:

  • a metal table with a metal apple for decoration
  • forks, knives, and even the ware are all made of metal.
  • the star shaped ceiling lamp, with sharp angles made of metal, omitting warm light, and giving a sense of coldness and alienation, but make sure the light is not to white to avoid

The user interface of the information system, like the website, traffic information, course arrangement display in education, etc, is also a form of art, and it shall be designed in a way that is aesthetically, minimalistically cold, but providing enough information and functionality so that users feel warm and able to make their own choices comfortably, rather than being overwhelmed by unnecessary things, or being discard by the lack of information. For example, the display of the transportation should display the current traffic, the surrounding environment, the date, and potentially the weather, but not news, advertisements, or elements that are purely decorative.
